San Diego College of Continuing Education to College Credit by Exam

This page provides information and resources for CTE Transitions Credit by Exam for San Diego College of Continuing Education students, faculty, and counselors.

The San Diego College of Continuing Education (SDCCD) CTE Transitions Credit by Exam process provides SDCCE students with opportunities to accelerate college degree completion.

Through the CTE Transitions Credit by Exam process, SDCCE students are able to earn college credit by successfully completing specific SDCCE courses that are tied to active CTE Transitions Credit by Exam Agreements between SDCCE and San Diego City, Mesa, or Miramar College.  These agreements better ensure that a student does not have to repeat the same content in a community college course that they already learned at SDCCE.

• Students earn SDCCD college credit (and in some instances, university transferable credit)
• Fees are waived for college course(s) completed through the credit by exam process
• College credit may be used to meet degree or certificate requirements and enables the student to advance to the next level college course for which the course(s) completed through the CTE Transitions Credit by Exam process count as prerequisites

In order for students to receive college credit, an active agreement must be in place between SDCCE and San Diego City, Mesa, or Miramar College at the time the student is enrolled in the SDCCE course.

SDCCE is working to improve the student experience and success within the SDCCE CTE Transitions Credit by Exam process.

Student processes and requirements have changed for fall 2022 enrollments. Faculty final assessment grade entry processes have also changed.

sdcce student requirements:

The following guidance is for students enrolled in SDCCE courses tied to active agreements during the fall 2021, spring 2022, and summer 2022 terms.

2021-22 SDCCE Student Flyer - Fall 2021 through Summer 2022

If you took an SDCCE course in fall 2021, spring 2022, or summer 2022 - To receive college credit, you must:

1. Enroll in a currently approved CTE Transitions Credit by Exam SDCCE course at SDCCE (see list of approved courses below under Active Agreements)
2. Earn an "A" or "B" in the course
3. Earn an "A" or "B" on the approved final assessment within the course
4. Complete an online college application for City, Mesa, or Miramar College
5. After completing the course and final assessment with qualifying grades ("A" or "B"), complete the online student acceptance of college credit form. This form will be emailed to you upon confirmation of your qualifying grades.
   • For fall 2021, spring 2022, and summer 2022 courses, confirmation of qualifying grades is completed by your SDCE instructor through the online SDCCE Instructor Certification Form at the end of the term. This form provides confirmation of your final course grade and final assessment grade and is provided to SDCCE Student Services.

Important Information

• Receiving college credit through the CTE Transitions Credit by Exam process is free.
• All college financial holds or records issues must be cleared before the posting of college credit.
• SDCCE students do not need to be residents to receive college credit through the CTE Transitions Credit by Exam process. However, filing a college application does require residency determination.
• Students cannot receive college credit through the CTE Transitions Credit by Exam process for a college course they have already taken.
• The grade earned on the final assessment will be the grade transcribed on the student's college transcript. For example: if the student receives an "A" in the course and a "B" on the final assessment, then the student's college transcript will show a "B" for the college course.
• Posting of college credit on a student's college records may take up to a semester from the date the form is submitted by the instructor for processing.

sdcCe faculty requirements:

As of Fall 2022, Faculty will no longer have to enter final assessment grades into the Instructor Certification Form. All final assessment grades will be entered in Campus Solutions through a new final assesment grade roster. This new final assessment grade roster will appear on the last day of the course. Faculty need to enter all final assessment grades by the same deadline final overall course grades are due.

Reminders:

• SDCCE students are only eligible to receive early college credit through the CTE Transitions Credit by Exam process if they have earned a grade of "A" or "B" on both the overall course grade and final approved assessment (exam/portfolio).
• Be aware of the specific agreement requirements stipulated within the signed active agreement
• Fully integrate the college approved final exam or portfolio process into the course.
• Provide CTE Transitions Program Credit by Exam process information to students within the class syllabus and during the first week of class.
• Ensure the students are aware they may be eligible for college credit.
• Encourage students to complete a college application at the beginning of the term. Consider making time to do so within your program orientation and/or the first week of class.

For Fall 2021, Spring 2022, and Summer 2022 Faculty - All SDCCE faculty teaching sections tied to active CTE Transitions Credit by Exam agreements within the fall 2021, spring 2022, and summer 2022 terms, must:

• Complete the SDCCE Credit by Exam Instructor Certification Form for all eligible students within two weeks of the course end date. Faculty must submit a separate form for each eligible student, for each program. Faculty will need the following student information to complete the form (items #1-3 are available to instructors in Campus Solutions. Please contact campus attendance clerk if unsure how to access this information): Student First and Last name, Student ten digit Student ID, Student's email, Student final course grade(s), and Student final assessment grade(s).
• The SDCCE Certification form should be completed only by SDCCE Instructors who have taught a course or courses tied to active CTE Transitions Credit by Exam agreements between SDCCE and San Diego City, Mesa or Miramar College.

Access to all active agreements and approved final assessments is available through a Teams Folder. Deans and VPIs have access. Faculty may request the final assessments from their Dean or the SDCCE Instructional Services Office.

Signed Active Agreements

Signed active agreements include roles and responsibilities, goals, unique requirements, and pathway information. All agreements are two-year renewable agreements, unless otherwise stated. Instructional Services offices at SDCCE and the College each maintain signed copies as well as copies of the agreed upon final assessment. The District also maintains copies of these materials. The agreement renewal process is initiated the fall prior to expiration (if the agreement expires in summer 2021, the renewal outreach will begin fall 2020).
